Unveiling of Swedish EV at Shanghai Auto Show
Polestar has declared that its fourth product will be unveiled at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show on April 18. The Polestar 4 is being billed as a “coupe SUV” that combines the aerodynamics of a coupe with the spaciousness of an SUV, while boasting a sleek, modern design. The Polestar 3 and the refreshed Polestar 2 are also set to make their China debut at the expo, providing attendees with a full view of the company’s lineup. As the company stated, the Polestar 4 “marries the aerodynamics of a coupe with the space of an SUV in a package enhanced by modern technology”.
Polestar has revealed that the design elements and “sustainability enhancements” first seen in their concept cars will be making their way into their production models. The most exciting part, however, is that the Polestar 4 will be “the fastest Polestar production car to date.” We can only assume that this is in reference to its top speed. The Polestar 2 has a top speed of 127 mph, the Polestar 3 can reach up to 130 mph, and the original Polestar 1 has a top speed of 155 mph. It is safe to assume that the Polestar 4 will have a top speed of around 160 mph. It is an interesting move by parent company Volvo, as three years ago they announced that all of their new cars would be limited to 112 mph. Polestar, however, continues to act as a more performance-oriented take on Volvo’s sleek Swedish design.
“Polestar 4 is not simply a modified version of our first SUV,” promised CEO Thomas Ingenlath. “Instead, we have completely reimagined the design to create a new breed of SUV coupe.” As a relatively new automaker, Polestar is slowly beginning to gain traction, and the potential of a unique take on a highly sought-after vehicle type could be the key to helping the brand expand in the near future. At the same time, the alluring performance and stunning looks of the Polestar 6 flagship roadster will help to make the brand more desirable, setting it up for long-term success. Polestar is starting to come into its own, and if the interesting features promised turn out to be as captivating as they sound, this positive momentum is sure to continue.
