Production for Polestar 3 is Now in Full Swing

China begins producing upscale electric SUV, US production next.

The Polestar 3 has recently commenced manufacturing, with the initial models being completed at the production facility in Chengdu, China.

For the first time, Polestar has expanded its production to two different continents with the launch of their new luxury electric SUV. Referred to as a significant milestone for the Swedish company, the vehicle is set to begin manufacturing in South Carolina during the middle of this year. This move showcases Polestar’s expansion into crucial global markets, including North America, Europe, and Asia. The brand also mentions that early production trials have already been conducted in the United States, further solidifying its presence in the region.

Plans for the commencement of production for the Polestar 3 were originally set for August of 2023. However, the company encountered a series of setbacks in their manufacturing processes, causing a delay in the start date. The Polestar 3, which will compete with the Tesla Model X, is set to be manufactured alongside the Volvo EX90 – an additional upscale electric SUV.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath stated, “This stunning car takes a significant step forward with the start of production, marking an important milestone on our journey from a one- to three-car company this year. We have also achieved launch readiness at the factory in Ridgeville, South Carolina, and are well on track with our plans to start manufacturing Polestar 3 in the USA.” This statement highlights the progress made by the company as they expand from producing one car to three. The start of production is a crucial achievement and signifies the growth of the company. Additionally, the factory in Ridgeville, South Carolina, is now ready for launch, and the company remains on schedule to begin manufacturing the Polestar 3 in the United States.

In the year 2021, Ingenlath expressed his belief that manufacturing the Polestar 3 in the United States would bring advantages for both customers and the automaker. Along with quicker delivery times and a streamlined process for obtaining necessary components, the chief executive officer is convinced that this decision will enhance Polestar’s presence in America, a major market for electric cars globally.

According to Thomas Ingenlath, the CEO of Polestar, the company’s upcoming model, the Polestar 3, will be produced in the United States specifically for their American clientele. Ingenlath expressed his pride in this decision, stating that it will be the first SUV to be manufactured in South Carolina. He also emphasized that the USA will now be considered a home market for Polestar, rather than just an export market.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer’s least expensive car, the Polestar 2, is not manufactured within the borders of the United States. As a consequence, it does not qualify for any potential electric vehicle tax incentives.

The Polestar 3 is making a comeback, and it will come in two different versions. With its dual-motor configuration, the base model boasts an impressive 489 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque. Opting for the Performance package will boost those numbers even further to 517 horses and 671 lb-ft. Additionally, the more athletic variant will be equipped with 22-inch wheels and advanced dual-chamber air suspension that has the ability to alter damping rates every two milliseconds.

A 111 kilowatt-hour battery offers a range of approximately 300 miles according to EPA estimates, placing it in the same category as the BMW iX xDrive50 (324 miles), Tesla Model X (335 miles), and Audi Q8 e-tron (300 miles). The upcoming Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor will have a starting price of $83,900, with an additional $6,000 for the optional Performance Pack.
