Porsche Breaks Indian Lap Records.

Cars Race Fiercely at BIC

Porsche recently accomplished two new lap records in India on the famed Buddh International Circuit. The 2024 Porsche 911 GT3 RS claimed the production car lap record while the 2024 Porsche Taycan Turbo S gained recognition for its performance as the fastest electric vehicle lap time at the track. These laps, verified by FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India), were completed by Narain Karthikeyan, the pioneering F1 driver from India.

The GT3 RS achieved a blistering lap time of 1 minute and 59.854 seconds at the BIC, smashing the former record set by the 2019 GT2 RS driven by Karthikeyan of 2 minutes and 0.266 seconds. It marks a remarkable feat as this is the first ever manufacturing automobile to clock a time below two minutes on the track.

Porsche articulates that the GT3 RS attained impressive velocities of beyond 155 mph on the straights due to its potent 518 horsepower flat-six engine. It could also deal with the twisting sections handily thanks to the leading-edge aerodynamics producing 900 pounds of downforce commencing at 124 mph. This is not the initial occasion that the GT3 RS has set a track record, as it also maintains the best lap time at Road America.

“In the back area of the circuit, the GT3 RS really shines,” said Karthikeyan. “I’d guess it’s 20-25 kph faster than the GT2 RS in the long straights and fast corners, so you gain a lot of time. It’s an absolute track weapon – fantastic to drive. Porsche have done a great job with this car, and I’m a big fan.”

Regarding the Taycan Turbo S, two electric motors generate a powerhouse of 750 hp with launch control. This formidable set up placed the Taycan in pole position around the racetrack in mere 2 minutes and 10.313 seconds, surpassing any existing production electrical vehicle.

“I am amazed by the speed this vehicle can reach,” exclaimed Karthikeyan. “The steering is top-notch, with its precision and feedback allowing me to precisely maneuver it on the track. Electric vehicles have become so much more enjoyable to drive, and the Taycan Turbo S is no exception – it’s a blast to drive! I’m sure that performance EVs will have a bright future,” he added.

“Highlighting our remarkable skill in both the classic internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and battery electric vehicle (BEV) segments, we have secured our status as the fastest car brand in India, dominating both urban roads and the racetrack,” said Manolito Vujicic, Brand Director, Porsche India. “This has firmly established our position as the premier car brand in the region.”
