Replica of Senna’s 1986 Lotus F1 Car now available as a stylish wrist accessory

Rec Watches unveils limited edition 98T John Player Special timepiece crafted with historic aluminum.

One of the most memorable race car liveries is the black and gold design of the John Player Special Formula 1 cars raced by Lotus. Rec Watches has launched a limited-edition watch that pays homage to this iconic look with a unique touch. This special timepiece is crafted using parts from a JPS F1 car, specifically sourced from the Lotus 98T chassis number 4, which was driven by Aryton Senna during the 1986 season.

The timepiece is known as the 98T/4 and has been created in partnership with Classic Team Lotus. The images reveal that it features the famous black and gold color combination. While the watch is mostly crafted from stainless steel, the Chapter Ring, which encircles the dial, is constructed from recycled aluminum sourced from the car’s original plenum tubes. The top glass is manufactured from sapphire crystal, the strap is leather, and it is water-resistant up to 100 meters. It’s highly unlikely that a watch of this caliber will ever come into contact with water unless there is a serious incident while driving.

For those familiar with the history, 1986 marked the final year featuring the iconic black and gold JPS design. Rec Watches reveals that the donor vehicle used for the last eight races of that particular season has contributed its aluminum to this watch. Therefore, the aluminum used in this timepiece originates from the ultimate JPS race car that participated in Formula 1, driven by arguably the best Formula 1 driver of all time.

Rec Watches is limiting production to just 989 units, with each priced at $3,995. Customers who take advantage of the pre-order offer can purchase one for a reduced price of $3,195, but there’s a catch – the watches won’t be ready until March 2025. This means that those who pre-order will have to wait almost a year before receiving their unique piece of F1 history.

It appears that potential buyers are showing great patience, as the majority of the 989 watches have already been reserved, reported by Rec. As of April 26, there are still 173 pre-orders remaining. It would be wise to prepare your credit card promptly.
