Revamped Chevy Blazer EV: Save Big with $7,500 Tax Credit and Deep Discounts!

Chevrolet slashes prices by $6,000 post stop-sale delay

The 2024 release of Chevrolet’s Blazer EV has officially resumed after a significant pause in deliveries that started earlier this year. However, in a delightful turn of events, General Motors has sweetened the deal for potential buyers by announcing lower prices and the full $7,500 Federal Tax Credit that can be applied to all models.

According to Chevrolet Vice President Scott Bell, “We are thrilled to reintroduce the Chevrolet Blazer EV, now at a more enticing price point and with improved features and functionality, while also qualifying for the entire consumer tax credit.” The current base model, the LT AWD, is now priced at $50,195, a significant decrease of over $6,500 from its initial MSRP.

Although the pricing for the base model, the LT FWD priced under $50k, and the RS FWD and SS have not been revealed, the current prices are listed below:

The halt of sales was declared just prior to the holiday season, following numerous grievances regarding technical malfunctions that impacted the infotainment displays and charging system of the Blazer EV. This development occurred only a few weeks after the Blazer EV’s debut in the national media, leaving most American automotive journalists, including CarBuzz, effusive in their praise.

Despite generally positive reviews, there were several publications that pointed out issues with the Blazer EV. These concerns, in addition to numerous complaints from consumers, ultimately led to a stop in sales for the vehicle.

According to Chevrolet, they have implemented “significant software updates” that will enhance the features and functionality of their vehicles in order to meet the high expectations of their customers. They are certain that these improvements will effectively address any concerns raised by early owners. As promised, they will also be applying these learnings to other products within GM’s lineup.

A variety of modifications have been made to the Blazer EV, such as personalized ambient lighting, updated driver instrumentation visuals displaying the level of battery charge, and other features. However, these alone may not be the standout elements of the Blazer EV that will leave a lasting impression.

We are willing to acknowledge our mistakes if proven wrong, but our investigation indicates that the Blazer EV will become the initial passenger vehicle offering all three drivetrain options (FWD, RWD, and AWD) in a single model generation. Additionally, the RS trim will be accessible with all three drivetrains.

The complete specifications for these powertrains have yet to be disclosed, however the Ultium platform provides Chevrolet with the opportunity to utilize a variety of electric motors with differing levels of power.

The regular dual-motor AWD option boasts a horsepower of 288 and a torque of 333 lb-ft, whereas the Blazer SS EV is expected to offer a remarkable 557 hp and an impressive 648 lb-ft of torque, accelerating from 0-60 mph in less than 4 seconds.

The recent announcement that the Blazer EV will be eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit is certainly good news. However, it was not unexpected since Honda and Acura have also revealed that their Prologue and ZDX models, respectively, will also qualify for this incentive. The reason for this is that all three vehicles share the same Ultium platform.

Before the Blazer EV was deemed eligible, General Motors aimed to alleviate the financial burden on customers by providing a $7,500 deduction for buyers of the Blazer EV and Lyriq models that did not qualify for tax credits.

One issue that consumers encounter is the changing eligibility of vehicles for discounts. This makes it challenging to determine when a desired electric vehicle (EV) will or will not qualify for the discount.

In December of 2023, ten cars were deemed suitable, however, by the conclusion of January 2024, only five met the requirements. In a matter of just one month, three more have been included, all within a few days of each other. Although the purpose of the Inflation Reduction Act is commendable, acknowledging purchasers who uphold the production of electric vehicles in the US, the constantly shifting standards are causing more damage than good. This resulting confusion is contributing to the increasing resistance towards embracing EVs.
