Debut Before Year’s End
2024 Mercedes EQG EV Prototype Spied Wearing Inventive Camo Pattern Full Electric Offroad G-Class

For some time now, Mercedes has been working on an electric version of their G-Class. In late 2020, the car manufacturer declared the G-Class will eventually have an entirely powered option offered. In 2021 a concept was first showcased, and despite this, the factory version is not set to be available until 2024. Research for the SUV is ongoing, as recently seen in a freshly issued spy video which recorded the boxy off-roader being tested under snowy conditions.

Recent spy shots of the EQG have suggested that it is beginning to shed some of its disguising camo, allowing us to catch glimpses of its true design. The test vehicle in the video above has even gone so far as to take on an impressive full-body blue wrapping, resembling the concept previously showcased, possessing many characteristics similar to the classic G-Class SUV.

Our secret photographers have already shot images of the EV’s cabin, and it appears analogous to what you would discover in its gas-driven partner. There are some components tailored particularly to the electric version, such as limited physical controls and distinct buttons for particular functions; however, the design is still the same. The prototype also had a flat-bottom steering wheel, indicating most likely that it was one of the sportier trims, which can be hard to distinguish without AMG’s four tailpipes protruding out the rear.

Thus far, the details about the powertrain for the upcoming Mercedes EQG are limited. It is known, though, that the SUV will boast a four-motor arrangement – one system augmenting each wheel. This specific architecture could likely provide an eye-catching tank turn maneuver. In addition, the model will ride on a slightly altered ladder-frame platform that has been particularly modified to suit the electric battery and motors that they are encasing in carbon-Kevlar panels underneath the car body. Unfortunately, as of yet specifics regarding energy rate and range remain shrouded.

It appears that we may have to wait a few more months before the unveiling of the upcoming G-Class electric variant. Reports indicate that it will become commercially available by the year 2024. Before that, the car is likely to be seen in the public eye as Mercedes continues to expand its range of electric vehicles. Additionally, the current name given to the project may not remain since there are speculations that the Mercedes brand might opt out of using the EQ nomenclature in future and advertise the G-Class Electric first.
