Sleeper Ready: 1965 VW Beetle with Turbo Power up for Grabs!

Highly Tuned Build with Garrett GT-2871 Turbocharger Running at 20 psi

When Volkswagen originally designed the Beetle as an affordable vehicle for the masses, performance and sportiness were not top priorities. However, this has not deterred enthusiasts from taking matters into their own hands. This particular 1965 model, currently up for sale, is a result of the builder’s eagerness to ramp up its speed.

The Mecum Auctions listing states that the Volkswagen Beetle in question boasts a custom-built engine featuring a Garrett GT2871 turbocharger set at a 20 psi pressure. This turbocharged system was made possible with the use of a modified CB Performance hideaway turbo header, converted to a Tial V-band setup, as well as a Tial stainless steel 0.63 exhaust housing. A Holley 600 double pumper carburetor designed for blow-through applications and a Tial MV-R wastegate were also utilized in the setup.

In the meantime, the assembled motor is paired with a CB Performance crankshaft and connecting rods, an aluminum CB Performance engine case with full-flow capability, CB Performance Street Eliminator cylinder heads, Jayee billet pushrod tubes, and Chromo billet pushrods, among other components. Handling oiling and fueling duties are a Holley Red fuel pump, a Clyde Berg breather box, and a Gene Berg o-ring oil pump with pressure relief cover.

The vendor, however, failed to reveal the exact horsepower measurement. Nonetheless, it is unquestionably far greater than the 25 horsepower boasted by the original Beetle. Typically, when enhancing the power of this modest vehicle, significant modifications to the body are necessary.

In addition to enhancements in the engine department, the Beetle boasts various modifications that enhance its driving experience. These include upgraded suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, which are intended to better handle the increased power of the engine and ensure smoother braking.

Upon examining the build, it is evident that the upgrades were intended to elevate the driving experience. While the exterior and interior have largely been left unchanged, aftermarket BRM wheels and gauges have been added for monitoring turbo boost and engine rpm.
