Transmission 2024 Volkswagen Golf: U.S. Exclusive GTI Model Ditches Manual Gearbox in Refresh

VW Celebrates Golf’s 50th Birthday with Updated GTI Hot Hatch and DSG Only for U.S. Customers

Nearly four years have passed since Volkswagen released the eighth installment of their popular Golf series. Although customers may not anticipate the unveiling of the ninth generation from the German automaker in the near future, they can expect a significant refresh for the compact vehicle.

Just like how VW’s 7th generation received a Mk7.5 upgrade, this recent update could be deemed a Mk8.5. Keeping this in mind, Volkswagen has at last unveiled a rejuvenated version of the Golf, although only the GTI performance hatchback variant will be available in the US.

Volkswagen, a global leading automotive company, has announced plans for a significant overhaul of its product lineup and business strategy. This shift comes in response to the growing demand for cleaner and more sustainable transportation options. The decision to revamp its products was made after Volkswagen received criticism for its involvement in an emission scandal in 2015. The company has since taken several steps to make amends and regain the trust of consumers. This includes a focus on developing electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as investing in renewable energy sources for its production processes. As part of the new strategy, Volkswagen plans to introduce at least 70 new electric models by 2028, with hopes of becoming a leader in the electric vehicle market. Moreover, the company aims to reduce its carbon footprint by investing in renewable energy projects and increasing the use of recycled materials in its production processes.”We have recognized the need for change and are committed to making a positive impact on the environment,” says Herbert Diess, CEO of Volkswagen. “Our goal is to become a leader in sustainable mobility and to inspire other companies in the industry to do the same.”To achieve these goals, Volkswagen has set aside a budget of €44 billion for the development of electric vehicles, as well as investing €30 billion in clean

Volkswagen (VW) is set to release a refreshed version of its popular model, the Golf, in various trim levels. However, customers in the United States will only have access to the Golf GTI, which stands out as a stylish and high-performance version of the compact hatchback. Other versions of the Golf, such as the standard Golf, Life, Style, R-Line, and the eco-friendly Golf GTE, will not be available for purchase in the US. Sadly, American customers will have to wait until the latter part of 2024 to get their hands on the strongest Golf models – the Golf GTI Clubsport, Golf R, and Golf Variant R. Volkswagen has confirmed that the Golf R variant will be released at a later date. There has been much anticipation for VW’s facelifted Golf, especially among fans of the brand. Many were hoping for a wider range of models to hit the US market. Unfortunately, those expectations have been somewhat dashed with the news that only the Golf GTI will be offered for now. The rest of the Golf family will likely remain out of reach for customers in the US.Enthusiasts may take some comfort in knowing that the Golf GTI is a well-respected and exciting car,

The GTI for the European market will boast VW’s 2.0 TSI turbocharged engine, with an impressive maximum output of 262 hp. This gives the European version of Golf GTI a significant increase of about 15 hp compared to its predecessor. The engine is paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission, powering the front wheels. Although there is no information available yet on the power output of the U.S. model, it is likely to have a similar boost in power as the previous hot hatch iteration. The torque numbers for the Golf GTI’s U.S. version have not been disclosed yet, but the Mk8 GTI offers a torque output of 273 lb-ft.

The forthcoming Golf GTI hot hatch will receive a facelift, resulting in various modifications to both the exterior and interior design. On the outside, the car will showcase revamped LED headlights with sleeker edges, as well as updated LED taillights and a fresh front bumper. Additionally, the iconic Volkswagen badge will now boast a novel lighting pattern. However, due to the current trend towards SUVs, the market offers fewer options for customers seeking a sporty alternative to the Golf GTI compared to previous years.

Distinctive features that distinguish the Golf GTI include a custom front design, highlighted by a sweeping honeycomb grille set within the bumper. This feature is enhanced with air vents and a front splitter-style spoiler. A striking red strip also adorns the upper grille and sits above the newly designed headlights. Moving to the rear, the Golf GTI boasts round, chrome-plated tailpipes on both sides of the black diffuser. Completing the sporty look are 17-inch Richmond alloy wheels that the Golf GTI confidently rides on.

Within the vehicle, riders will surely appreciate the Golf GTI’s luxurious sports seats featuring a timeless check design. The driver, in particular, can relish the leather multifunctional sports steering wheel. The car also displays glimpses of sportiness with its striking red stitching and accents on the front headrests and center steering wheel.

The GTI boasts an aluminum frame for the gear shift, 30-color customizable ambient lighting, a three-zone Climatronic system, and a high-end multimedia interface. For the first time, a real carbon fiber interior trim option is also offered. In addition, all revamped VW Golf variants now boast a state-of-the-art MIB4 infotainment system, featuring a stylish free-standing touchscreen and illuminated touch sliders for easy temperature and volume adjustment. Specific pricing and availability details will be disclosed at a future date.
