As the Porsche 75th anniversary celebration is coming to an end, the company isn’t done honoring the occasion just yet. Porsche has released a new video titled “Hot hypercar classic heads for the hills – the Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion,” which takes its “Driven By Dreams” slogan to a whole new level. The clip is a bit of movie magic that showcases an often overlooked icon from the Porsche collection, and offers a glimpse into what goes through a car’s mind when no one’s around.

Throughout the year, Porsche has been busy brainstorming extraordinary and incredibly inventive ways to celebrate its 75th anniversary. From collaborating with designers to produce remarkable concept vehicles, seen its infamous colours integrated into domestic items, even an unprecedented 75th commemoration sale. This fresh video is dissimilar in approach to other events and furthermore highlights a car that is unable to be found on public roads.

Hot hypercar classic heads for the hills – the Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion

In this compelling and stunningly brief two-minute video, we are welcomed by two mechanics busily working on a vintage Porsche 911 Carrera in the after-hours Porsche Museum workshop. As our attention is led throughout the muted museum, several notable Porsches come into focus and finally land on the distinguished 911 GT1 Strassenversion – at which point a curious event is presented.

For a moment, a shining brilliance shone forth accompanied by a shrieking alert, and then suddenly, the GT1 stirred to life in a gradual manner. With the turn of the wheel, our vision was struck with the sight of marvelous mountain roads wherein the GT1 could move unhinderedly and without worry.

This is an extraordinary phenomenon, with as few as 25 examples of the 911 GT1 Strassenversion having been created in order to meet homologation demands in the latter part of the 90s. Showcasing more in connection to the 962 rather than the 911, under its cover rests a mid-mounted, double turbocharged 3.2-liter flat-six engine delivering 537 hp and 443 lbft of torque. Matched up with a six-speed manual dispatch pushing energy out to just the back wheels, this car can still provide opposing current supercars a considerable challenge.
