Alfa Romeo CEO Shares Plans for Giulia and Upcoming Models, Duetto Revival Possible

During a recent interview, Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Phillippe Imparato provided a sneak peek at the long-awaited electric version of the popular Giulia sedan, slated to hit the market in 2026.Although the launch is still a few years away, Imparato shared some exciting details about the eco-friendly luxury car, generating buzz among aficionados.Enthusiasts can anticipate a sleek and modern design, combined with eco-conscious technology, when the Giulia electric sedan finally hits the roads in 2026. This highly anticipated release is sure to be a game-changer in the luxury car industry.

In an interview with Motor1 Italy during a press event held at the Alfa Romeo museum, the CEO expressed his admiration for the upcoming Giulia’s design. He stated, “What we have created is a masterpiece, we couldn’t have finalized the appearance of this car without being completely infatuated with it. And now we are!” Despite utilizing the STLA Large platform, which also serves as the foundation for the new Dodge Charger, the next-generation Giulia will showcase a vastly distinctive design and, presumably, a more condensed body structure.

According to Imparato, the Alfa model will be distinctively dissimilar to the Charger, owing to the remarkably adaptive nature of the STLA Large framework. This exclusivity empowers Stellantis brands to opt for varying measurements such as length, width, distance from the ground, and wheelbase for the vehicle, as well as diverse suspension configurations.

The Alfa and its counterpart in America are two distinct vehicles designed for specific target markets. Though they may have a common platform, it is crucial for the new Giulia to exude the luxurious and sporty qualities typical of an Italian sports sedan, rather than resemble a muscle car.

The approach Alfa plans to adopt to accomplish this mission is yet to be revealed. However, given the accolades that have been showered upon the performance and sound of the present model, in comparison to the consistently superior sports sedans such as the BMW M3, it would be a tragedy if the Giulia moniker was given to anything less than a stunning masterpiece that provides an exhilarating driving experience and is visually appealing.

One thing that is certain is that the Giulia is set to debut with both electric and traditional combustion engine options, appealing to a wider variety of potential buyers. Additionally, a hybrid drivetrain will be included as an option. It is predicted that the gasoline-fueled models will still utilize the well-known four-cylinder engines, but with enhancements and improvements.

The highest-tier Quadrifoglio will trade in its V6 motor for an electric powertrain boasting an impressive 1,000 horsepower. This is expected to be the identical engine found in the upcoming Charger Daytona Banshee, featuring cutting-edge 800-volt technology. In addition, there will also be lower models of EVs available with options of 345 horsepower and 790 horsepower. The estimated range, according to WLTP standards, is a maximum of 435 miles.

By 2027, there will be a variety of Alfa Romeo electric vehicles on the market, including the battery-electric Giulia. The 33 Stradale, which was initially available with a V6 engine, will also offer an electric version as a limited-edition model. This marks Alfa’s first venture into the realm of electric cars. In addition, the compact Milano crossover is set to be released shortly after the 33 Stradale, and the brand-new Stelvio will also make the transition to an electric vehicle.

According to reports, the Stelvio and Giulia will be manufactured side by side at the Cassino facility, although the SUV is expected to hit the market a year before the sedan.Reports suggest that at the Cassino factory, production of the Stelvio and Giulia will run simultaneously, with the SUV model entering the market one year ahead of its sedan counterpart.

In addition to the recently launched Giulia and Stelvio models, Alfa Romeo is looking to diversify its range by introducing a larger high-end SUV that will potentially compete against top players such as the BMW iX, Mercedes EQE, and Polestar 3. This addition is set to hit the market about a year after the next iteration of the Giulia, and will be built on the SLTA Large platform.

The potential addition of a larger SUV to the lineup may be accompanied by an electric luxury sedan designed to compete with the likes of the BMW i5. Unfortunately, the Italian car manufacturer has not fared well in this particular market. Its previous models, such as the 166, were undoubtedly aesthetically pleasing but failed to generate significant sales. However, it is possible that the introduction of a high-end electric SUV could bring better fortunes for the automaker.

The much-beloved Duetto sports car may soon make a comeback, potentially as a successor to the 4C model. According to industry experts, Alfa Romeo is the only brand with the ability to produce a car ranging from €30,000 to €2 million. As one expert puts it, “You can’t simply create a Duetto out of thin air. However, if you were to develop a C-segment vehicle, you could easily produce both a Coupe and Spyder version, which would undoubtedly be a fantastic venture.”
