The EZ-6 will be available as a plug-in hybrid exclusively in China.
Mazda discontinued the 6 model in the United States in 2021, followed by the UK last year, and Japan just a few months ago. However, this mid-size sedan/wagon remained available in Europe and other regions. In China, a new version of the 6 has been introduced, completely unrelated to the old model which dates back to 2012.
Introducing the EZ-6, a new creation from the collaboration between Changan Mazda. This stylish sedan will be available in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid versions. It features the iconic Kodo design style with a unique partially lit grille and retractable door handles. The taillights seem to draw inspiration from Jaguar models, and the headlights have a hint of the same influence. Surprisingly, there is an active spoiler above the light bar at the rear, a feature not commonly found on sedans.
The Mazda EZ-6, equipped with 19-inch aero wheels, boasts a spacious panoramic glass roof and frameless doors. According to reports from China, this electric/plug-in hybrid sedan is derived from the Changan Shenlan SL03 but has been elevated to a higher market segment with a more luxurious interior. The interior of the cabin seems to deviate significantly from the typical Mazda offerings available worldwide, possibly due to its Chinese origins. Nonetheless, it presents itself as an inviting space, highlighted by the intriguing full-length “floating” center console.
Accompanying these released images are preliminary details about the Mazda EZ-6. The model is designed as an electric vehicle with a rear-wheel-drive configuration, boasting a precise 50:50 weight distribution and a sophisticated multi-link rear suspension system. The battery pack specifications have not been disclosed, but it is estimated to provide a range of 373 miles according to the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). In addition, the plug-in hybrid version of the vehicle is expected to have a total range of 621 miles before requiring a refill of gas or recharging of the battery.
In terms of dimensions, it measures 193.7 inches in length, 74.4 inches in width, and stands at 58.4 inches tall. This makes it a bit larger than its predecessor, the 6 model. Mazda has confirmed that they will not be introducing a new version of the familiar 6 sedan on their rear-wheel-drive platform with inline-six engines. Currently, this platform is dedicated to four SUV models: CX-60, CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90.
The EZ-6 will be available for purchase in China after making its first appearance this week at the Beijing Auto Show. This electric/plug-in hybrid mid-size car is not expected to be sold in other countries.
