Toyota’s 300M Car Milestone: 88 Years

The Corolla: its #1 Seller

It was way back in August of 1935 when the Toyota Motor Corporation, now known as we do, had its inception. This initiation began with the creation of their first vehicle, a G1 pickup truck, which was in fact put together by the automotive manufacturing division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works. This corporation was established in 1926 and originally involved the production of automatic looms before the automobile product segment was spun off from this center in 1937. As an interesting point, Toyota Industries is still producing automatic looms in 2023.

Looking into the present, the Japanese automotive manufacturer is honoring an impressive juncture in its organization’s chronicle. Impressively, 88 years after initializing the fabrication of their first truck, Toyota has reached a monumental 300 million manufactured cars – a fact that was officialized at the end of September, despite only being declared now.

Across nearly ninety years, Toyota has now devised over 180 million cars in its own domestic production sites, while almost 120 million have been assembled overseas. As expected, the Corolla is the most widely-held type of car – with 53.39 million created. This nameplate has been around since 1966 and has come in many different shapes and sizes, from saloons and hatches to estates and coupes, plus the odd minivan.

In 2022, for the third consecutive year, Toyota became the top-selling vehicle producer when they dispatched 10.5 million vehicles worldwide. Moreover, as per JATO Dynamics, the RAV4 was the most sought-after car. Their inventory is rising, with the beginning of a four-model collection of Crowns and additionally the presentation of a Century SUV.

It is possible that an expanded range of models could arrive if the electric pick-up truck, SUV, and sports car presented at Japan’s Mobility Show last month make it all the way into production sometime in the following years.
