2020 Skoda Kodiaq: Testing at the Nurburgring

Skoda shall uncover the upgraded Kodiaq SUV soon this year. Notwithstanding, the manufacturer has already begun to allude to it, though that doesn’t indicate they have completed their work. A fresh set of spy pics illustrated the remodeled model being subjected to rigorous testing around the Nurburgring racetrack.

The Kodiaq is still garbed in closely-fitting, all-encompassing camo. Yet, the concealment covers up the model’s finer design elements which we’re not expected to see until it’s revealed officially. This three-row SUV doesn’t look too different from its predecessor, with similar lines and grille. The headlamps display a novel pattern, and the front bumper has tall and wide intakes placed at the sides.

Disguise at the back hides most of the design choices. Only small glimpses of the taillights emerge from under the hide, yet it is hard to ascertain any other styling modifications that Skoda will make on the SUV’s outlook. It is anticipated that the organization will alter the rear bumper and upgrade the taillights at least.

Skoda has playfully teased the next iteration of their design, exhibiting a white exterior-only display. The pictures unfortunately didn’t uncover too much, yet still highlight an SUV that conserves its current aesthetic and format.

According to our sources, however, the revamped Kodiaq will remain based on the MQB architecture, though with modifications. Despite its importance to the company, the Kodiaq did not surpass Skoda’s reports of sales a year ago. With 141,000 purchases, it was the Octavia that touched the peak in figures. In the present fiscal year, the Kodiaq has witnessed a drop in amounts by 4.2%—culminating at 94,500 units of sale. Having launched the very first three-row SUV back in 2016, the company has manufactured more than 800,000 pieces from the Kodiaq series and is presently preparing for an extensive revamp.

Skoda is poised to uncover the all-new Kodiaq later in 2021, with its formal launch expected to take place at dealerships early in 2022. Additionally, before year’s end another Skoda model – the improved Superb – will be unveiled. Also scheduled for an imminent upgrade is the maker’s top seller Octavia, followed shortly by the new entry into their lineup – a compact electric SUV nicknamed the Elroq.
