BMW plug-in hybrid outweighs Porsche by 1,000 pounds.
Gone are the days when having a good time meant settling for less. Car manufacturers have stepped up their game by packing an incredible amount of power into their spacious family SUVs and crossovers. A recent drag racing footage showcases the ultimate showdown between two impressive beasts—the BMW XM and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT—as they battle it out for dominance on the track.
Neither vehicle is in its original factory condition, as the BMW has undergone a tune. The SUV, which is a plug-in hybrid, comes equipped with a dual-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine that generates an impressive combined output of 738 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque in its typical state. However, for this showdown, it has been boosted to produce just over 800 hp.
The vehicle was pitted against the comparatively less potent Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT. Equipped with upgraded downpipes, it proudly boasted a staggering 650 horsepower and an impressive torque of 625 lb-ft. Both sport utility vehicles were equipped with eight-speed transmissions and all-wheel drive capabilities, but the XM proved to be the bulkier contender at a hefty weight of just over 6,000 pounds. On the contrary, the Cayenne Turbo GT weighed almost 1,000 lbs less.
Despite its efforts, the BMW failed to surpass the Porsche in any of the races, facing difficulties when it came to getting off the starting line as soon as the signal went off. Nevertheless, the BMW did manage to finish the quarter-mile distance faster than the Porsche in the initial race, recording a time of 11.371 seconds at a speed of 124.08 mph, while the Porsche completed it in 11.621 seconds at 118.67 mph.
In the second round, there was a narrower margin between the competitors, however, the Porsche emerged as the true champion with a time of 11.168 seconds compared to the BMW’s 11.354 seconds. Similar results were seen in the third race, where the Cayenne clocked in at 11.216 seconds while the XM trailed close behind with a time of 11.263 seconds.
