Race Begins Again This Week.

Gooding & Company, the renowned auction house, and 1000 Miglia (the modern equivalent of the classic Mille Miglia) have united to form a joint venture that makes it easier for the affluent to acquire cars for the historic race. Gooding & Company will be one of the most important sponsors of the 1000 Miglia, while the executives behind the race will provide qualified vehicles with pre-certification for future competitions.

This thrilling association is set to commence this week with the yearly 1000 Miglia race in Italy. Beginning in Brescia, Gooding & Company will showcase a 1956 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce Alleggerita that has to be auctioned off soon in London.

“We are delighted to be involved in this venture with the 1000 Miglia team, and we look forward to furthering our relationship with one of the most renowned names in motor racing,” declared David Gooding, President and Founder of Gooding & Company.

“The Spirit of 1000 Miglia is a tribute to the vehicles which embody the genuine soul of the Red Arrow and is driven by a passion to honour and promote the spirit that has been integral to the race since 1927,” declared Alberto Piantoni, CEO of 1000 Miglia. “Today, it is widely recognized as ‘the most beautiful race in the world.'”

The famous 1000 Miglia isn’t as wild as it used to be in its inaugural year, 1927. Nowadays, the celebrated Mille Miglia is no longer about speed; rather, it’s a week-long rally event which follows along the original path from Brescia to Rome then back again.

The legendary competition of enduring 1,000 miles along public highways is to this day associated with Sir Stirling Moss and his navigator Denis Jenkinson. The pair accomplished the heroic feat in ten hours, seven minutes, and forty-eight seconds, making a remarkable legacy to be commemorated by Mercedes-McLaren’s SLR722. This remarkable record still stands today.

The magnitude of casualties was immense. Over the span of 30 years, an estimated 60 individuals – encompassing drivers and viewers – expired. In addition, recall that from 1941 to 1946 the event was suspended.

This week, Alfa Romeo Gooding & Company will be put on show in Italy, a somewhat peculiar option. Nevertheless, it’s vital to understand that Alfa Romeo have gathered more triumphs in the Mille Miglia racing than any other car manufacturer. Their closing success was in 1947 driving an Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 B Berlinetta Touring, marking the maiden race after the completion of WW2. Although Ferrari had authority over the proceeding years, Moss and Jenkinson earned the top prize in 1955 along with Alberto Ascari who drove a Lancia D24 Spider one year preceding. Subsequently, Lancia discovered their metier and created a remarkable rally team later on.

The renowned 1956 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce Alleggerita is the genesis of the modern day Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio GTAm. It boasts plexiglass windows and lightweight aluminum components for its doors, hood, and trunk lid. Even though this car never raced in the historic Mille Miglia, it had a restoration from 2011 to 2013, enabling it to participate in the 2019 race which it successfully completed.

This vehicle shall be provided along with a FIVA (International Federation of Historic Vehicles) identification card and Registro Mille Miglia proof of homologation. Subsequently, the purchaser qualifies to partake in any up-and-coming 1000 Miglia function.
