Uncompromising quality: a long-lasting, high-performance Mini without any shortcuts
A car modification enthusiast from Canada has revealed the techniques for creating robust Mini Cooper builds that are sure to be dependable. While most aftermarket companies focus on basic modifications, such as installing bolt-on turbochargers for increased power, RPM Power in Vancouver takes a more intricate and comprehensive approach to enhancing Mini Coopers for high performance. The following video provides insight into their methods.
According to the constructor, the JCW N18 engine serves as an excellent foundation for enhancing a Mini Cooper. He verifies its dependability through its resilient pistons and reduced compression rate. Nonetheless, the cylinder heads pose as the engine’s weakness.
In order to rectify this issue, the builder utilizes various machining techniques on the stock head for their Mini projects. According to him, this step is crucial due to the rough nature of the stock combustion chambers, which can greatly hinder the efficiency of any engine tune. Additionally, the RPM Power Mini build boasts sturdier valve seats and valves, along with a freeze plug. Notably, the freeze plug on the original engine head has been identified as a weak link in its structure.
These are the primary components of the engine, although they also utilized a billet intake manifold for improved dependability. While the original intake performs satisfactorily, the customized version is capable of withstanding 600-hp modifications. Additionally, a more robust fuel injector pump was installed in a curious location – replacing the typical spot of the washer fluid reservoir.
A recently released video from RPM Power highlighted a latest personalized turbocharger designed for their JCW N18 engine modifications. While not yet available for purchase, the aftermarket tuning company confirms its compatibility with the stock dual-scroll exhaust manifold of the car. The previous R400 turbocharger from the company has proven to produce an impressive 520 wheel horsepower.
The distinct modification that generated 520 horsepower was documented on a dynamometer and subsequently posted by the company on their official Instagram account. According to the post, the mechanic attained this outcome without encountering any ruptured belts or unsuccessful dynamometer tests. The establishment has not yet exhibited a build with 600 horsepower, however, they assert that their enhancements have the potential to achieve this objective with additional refinement.
