Ram discontinues Ram Classic pickup truck in Canada, signaling potential cancellation for US markets.
The Ram Classic pickup truck has reached its conclusion for Canadian customers, as Stellantis revealed the end of production for Canada. However, production will persist for the United States and Mexico. The fate of the Ram Classic beyond 2024 in the U.S. is uncertain.
When it comes to Canadian purchasers, the existing stock of Ram Classic trucks – all 2023 models – will be available for purchase throughout the year. Standard Rams in 1500, 2500, and 3500 variations are also on offer as 2024 models. In the United States, it has already been confirmed that Ram Classic production will continue into the 2024 model year, with sales alongside updated 2025 trucks later in the year.
Is this the start of the demise for the Ram Classic? Only two versions of the 16-year-old truck are available – a utility-focused Tradesman and the rugged Warlock. Both provide customers with options for cab size, truck bed size, and either a V-6 or V-8 engine. The possible downfall for the Ram Classic lies in the V-8 engine.
The Hemi will no longer be available after 2024, so unless Ram decides to modernize the classic truck with a new twin-turbocharged inline-six engine – a move that may seem contradictory to the “Classic” nameplate – customers will only have access to the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6. The V-6 offers 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, which is sufficient for propelling a full-size truck. However, towing capacity decreases to 7,540 pounds compared to over 11,000 pounds for the incoming inline-six and the current Hemi.
The foundational structure of the Ram Classic traces back to 2008, during the period when Ram was affiliated with Dodge. Despite declining to provide insight on future production of the Classic in the US, a representative from Ram hinted that with the discontinuation of the Hemi engine and the halt in production for Canada, it appears inevitable that the longstanding truck will soon bid farewell before gracefully retiring into the horizon.
