Improved Performance: Toyota GR Yaris Automatic Outpaces Previous Manual Version

Enhanced Toyota Model Gains Power, Chassis Adjustments, and Eight-Speed Automatic Transmission
NEW Toyota GR Yaris: DRAG RACE & review!

The recent debut of the revamped GR Yaris by Toyota has left auto enthusiasts buzzing. Enhancements to its power, a rejuvenated design, and the availability of an automatic transmission have all contributed to making this model a promising source of excitement. A newly released video showcases the impressive progress made on the latest version as it outperforms its predecessor in speed and agility.

The Toyota GR Yaris retains its 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, however, it now boasts an impressive output of 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This is a significant increase from its previous 268 hp and 272 lb-ft, and the difference in power is immediately apparent.

The speediest GR Yaris in this experiment was the latest version equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It finished the quarter-mile sprint in a rapid 13.61 seconds. On the other hand, the manual variant of the new Yaris completed the same distance in 13.67 seconds; however, it was able to reach 60 miles per hour in just 5.06 seconds. The automatic model was not far behind, clocking in at 5.1 seconds to reach 60 mph.

Although not a flawless comparison between the old and new models, the 2020 hatchback proved to be slower. It took a full six seconds to reach 60 mph and completed the quarter-mile in 14.12 seconds. While this is still a commendable performance, it pales in comparison to the updated version’s capabilities.

Toyota implemented numerous enhancements to the Yaris, going above and beyond just introducing their latest innovation – the new eight-speed torque-converter automatic dubbed the Direct Automatic Transmission. The Circuit edition boasts a cooling system, while vehicles equipped with the automatic transmission are also equipped with a dedicated gearbox cooler.

Toyota has made significant improvements to the engine, including modifying the pistons for a lighter design and increasing direct injection pressure. Additionally, they have also made adjustments to the body and suspension in order to better handle the increased power.Beneath the surface, Toyota has revamped various components of their engine, such as implementing lighter pistons and elevating direct injection levels. They have also bolstered the body structure and fine-tuned the suspension to accommodate the added power. These updates to the engine by Toyota prove to be considerable, as they have not only modified the pistons for reduced weight, but also intensified direct injection pressure. Furthermore, modifications have been made to the body and suspension to optimize functionality with the amplified power.

Unfortunately, the previous GR Yaris was not made available by Toyota in our region, and the same can be expected for the new model as well. However, there is a possibility that the recently developed gearbox of this car could make an appearance in the upcoming 2025 version of the GR Corolla.
