John Oliver Roasts Elon Musk on Autopilot

John Oliver Grills Elon Musk on Tesla, SpaceX, Antisemitism

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has incessantly resided in the public spotlight this year. His electric automaker business has generated a large number of news stories during the course of 2023, unfortunately, most of them extremely unfavorable. Have a seat and let John Oliver from HBO’s Last Week Tonight show you through a wild collection of Musk information from the last twelve months, while concurrently reminding yourself not to ever purchase a Tesla or trust something this man utters.

In January, an engineer from Tesla testified that the 2016 video the company had claimed to show a “full self-driving” car was actually staged. Despite this, the system is still in its beta form and available to over 50,000 Tesla owners, despite all of the safety risks that come with it. As Oliver demonstrated in video footage from CNBC, the full self-driving system is far from perfect, making dangerous and incorrect maneuvers while surrounded by traffic and pedestrians. Just recently, Tesla was compelled to recall over 2 million cars to stop drivers from taking advantage of their vehicle’s “autosteer” feature.

Since 2016, there have been roughly 40 fatal or serious accidents involving Tesla’s driver assistance software, The Washington Post reports. Despite this, Elon Musk insists on making the systems available to the public, claiming that the “incontrovertible data” proves it saves lives and prevents injuries – though he has yet to show this data to the public. Oliver questions this stance, suggesting that it would be “morally indefensible” not to take the systems off the market and continue testing internally in order to avoid further harm.

Oliver takes on far more than merely Tesla. He delves into Musk’s ill-fated Twitter takeover, the missteps of SpaceX and plenty else. It’s well worth it to view this, especially if you’ve been undecided about that Cybertruck you’ve pined over for three years.
