According to an article by Motor1 Italy, Alfa Romeo CEO Jean Philippe Imparato recently spoke at a press event held at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, most likely during the March 10th ALFA WOMEN conference. During this event, Imparato discussed the future of the Giulia sports sedan and stated, “What we designed is a bomb, we couldn’t finalize the style of this car without being absolutely in love with it. And now we are!” However, the biggest bombshell is that the upcoming 2026 Giulia will share its platform with the 2024 Dodge Charger.

Thus, the idea of a Charger/Alfa crossover may not be as unusual as it appears at first glance. In fact, this concept has already been put into action. The Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet have quite a bit in common, including their powertrain, equipment, body panels, and numerous components.

Imparato shared with journalists that the upcoming Giulia model will be manufactured in Cassino, Italy along with Alfa Romeo’s Stelvio crossover, set to make its debut in 2025. Similar to the Giulia, the Stelvio will utilize the STLA Large platform, just like the Charger. For those curious, STLA is the stock code for Stallantis on the New York Stock Exchange.

Alfa Romeo’s primary focus on the platform lies in its versatility. According to Stellantis’ official website for the platform, “Future models will encompass a wide range of vehicle categories, including sedans, crossovers, and SUVs, all equipped with electric propulsion for immediate torque response and emission-free driving.” In essence, this platform aims to achieve both performance objectives and comply with governmental regulations for fuel efficiency and emissions.

According to Stellantis, their platform has been specifically designed to accommodate a significant amount of battery power. As stated by the company, “The platform is equipped with battery pack choices ranging from 85 to 118 kilowatt hours (kWh). The STLA Large platform aims to achieve an impressive range of 800 km/500 miles for sedans.” However, the power generated by these batteries does not only contribute to the extended range, but it also delivers exceptional acceleration. This is the reason why the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona, also known as the first and only electric muscle car in the world, is built on this platform.

According to Stellantis, the STLA Large platform has the capability to possess unparalleled power that will surpass all current Hellcat V-8s. In other words, the first set of propulsion components has the potential to achieve a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration in just 2 seconds.

While some may interpret this news to mean that the 2026 Giulia will solely run on electric power, Alfa Romeo has not indicated any such plans. The upcoming 2024 Dodge Charger, on the other hand, will continue to utilize traditional fuel power thanks to Stellantis’ Hurricane 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-6 engine. This design allows for both internal combustion and electric drivetrains to be compatible with the platform.

As per a report by Motor1, the Giulia and Stelvio will be getting electric versions in 2027, when all Alfa Romeo models are expected to have an EV option. In the meantime, the Giulia and Stelvio will continue to run on internal combustion engines, with plans for a hybrid version in the works. The specific engines and transmissions for these new models have not been announced yet. It is possible that the Giulia may be equipped with the Daytona EV powertrain and the Stelvio with the Hurricane internal combustion engine, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

The exact size of the upcoming Giulia remains uncertain, but a comparison between the current Giulia and Stelvio models, as well as the 2024 Charger, shows significant differences in dimensions.
