Power Unleashed: Maserati’s GranCabrio Spyder Roars with 542 Horsepower

2024 Maserati GranCabrio Trofeo: A Stunning Convertible with Nettuno Twin-Turbo V6 Power

The criticism that Maseratis are merely “poor man’s Ferraris” is far from the truth. The prestigious Trident brand has successfully established its own unique identity by producing exceptional sports cars, supercars, and SUVs that boast of sleek designs and exhilarating performance. This is perfectly exemplified by the latest addition to their lineup – the 2024 Maserati GranCabrio Trofeo convertible.

When it comes to Ferrari, we can no longer reminisce about the V8 engines that once propelled Maseratis when the iconic luxury car brand acquired control of the company in the late 1990s. But in 2019, Ferrari made the decision not to renew their contract and ceased providing engines to Maserati, forcing them to develop their own power units. This led to the creation of the Nettuno twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine. Its performance is truly impressive, and experiencing the forceful roar of the Nettuno V6 in the Maserati MC20 GT2 will undoubtedly convince anyone of its capabilities.

The Nettuno V6 engine, when in Trofeo trim, produces an impressive 542 horsepower. According to Maserati, this powerful engine enables the GranTurismo Trofeo to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 199 mph. Despite its heavier weight, the GranCabrio is expected to have similar performance capabilities. In terms of weight, the GranTurismo Trofeo coupe weighs 4,072 pounds, while Maserati claims the GranCabrio Trofeo will be approximately 359 pounds heavier at 4,431 pounds.

Upon release, the GranCabrio will initially come in the Trofeo edition, a designation reserved by Maserati for their most powerful models with internal combustion engines (ICE). The Folgore name, on the other hand, is specifically assigned to their line of electric cars, while Modena represents the more basic version.

Employing the GranTurismo coupe as a comparison, a Modena variation is expected to boast approximately 480 horsepower, while the Folgore edition is rumored to pack about 750 horsepower. And for those who believe electric cars are only for eco-conscious individuals, Maserati’s GranTurismo Folgore will undoubtedly revolutionize your perspective. With plans to release fully electric versions of all its models by 2025, Maserati offers a glimpse into the potential of a future Folgore GranCabrio model.
