Refined Marques Gives AMG G63 Convertible Makeover

At the weekend, esteemed supercar merchant Refined Marques debuted their inaugural personalized model – a posh Mercedes-AMG G63 Convertible, with only 20 examples being authored worldwide and retailing at 1.2 million Euros (1.32 million USD). Anyone conversant with the G-Class cognizance that while previously the G had been offered as a drop-top, it has not been available in the G63 version.

The conception originated when the owner’s five-year-old son inquired if the Brabus G700 he was driving in could be reconstructed with a convertible top and a minor portal for him to climb out of. Being an extraordinary father, with the fundamental means and ties, he reconciled, putting together a solitary model to actualize his child’s vision.

While the tale could’ve been over then and there, it was only just beginning. Piquing a significant level of curiosity were proprietors of the G500 Cabriolet Final Edition 200 who yearned for a redesigned option which rectified all known flaws of the model.

Missed features such as back suicide doors, expanded rear leg room, and simplification of the roof and trunk opening or closure were all crucial aspects that the G500 Cabriolet failed to offer, with customers wanting even more power additionally.

The 2024 Mercedes-AMG G63, used to produce this special cabriolet, is fueled by a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 creating 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque; figures that owners of modern high-performance SUVs just like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Lamborghini Urus, and Range Rover SVR are familiar with.

The G500 Cabriolet Final Edition 200, essentially the last manifestation of Mercedes’ G-Class convertible, saw a limited production run of over two hundred vehicles. Supported by a 5.5L V8 engine offering 388 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque, it may not be the rarest Mercedes to have ever been crafted, but its scarcity is definitely remarkable.

Additionally, there was the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet, constructed on the theme of the G63 4×4 Squared, but with Maybach opulence and a motor-driven soft top superseding the last segment of the roof. Furthermore, Jon Olsson fashioned a convertible of the same auto with a more impressive conclusion.

Among the frustrated G500 Cabriolet proprietors who reached out to Refined Marques to purchase a G63 Cabrio, one buyer (a widely renowned model) bemoaned breaking a heel and ripping her attire when getting out of the back of her G500. As soon as she heard news of the G63 Cabrio project, she immediately placed a down payment. Watch out for social media updates flaunting her with the car very soon.

It took 18 months to complete the development of the car, and a group from Germany comprised of F1 and supercar mechanics was tasked with doing the modifications. In order to make simplifying the roof operation a top priority, they put forth their best effort.

The G500 Final Edition demands a number of activities for its opening roof; yet it can now be operated by merely engaging the brake pedal, unlocking the locks on both the driver and passenger side, and pushing a single button. Furthermore, the roof may even be folded down whilst the vehicle is in motion.

The debut of the first of twenty Mercedes-AMG G63 Cabrios was unveiled last weekend at an elite happening in Monaco. Decked out with a heavenly China Blue finish and highlighted by a red leather interior furnished with subservient blue stitching, the convertible top was also bedecked in feisty red.
