Stay Cool all Summer in the Mercedes CLE Convertible with Special Leather Seats!

Innovative Coating Reflects Near-Infrared Sun Rays

The popularity of convertibles, particularly for Mercedes-Benz models, is on the decline. The brand has discontinued its SLC, S-Class Cabriolet, and AMG GT Roadster in recent times, while also gradually phasing out convertible options for the C-Class and E-Class. However, instead of directly replacing these models, a new vehicle – the CLE Cabriolet – will indirectly take their place.

After giving a sneak peek in July, the latest Mercedes model has finally been revealed in official pictures. The vehicle boasts an electrically foldable fabric roof, adding to its sleek and modern design. Positioned as a more affordable alternative to the luxurious SL, the CLE Cabriolet is also being hailed as the largest car in its category. Measuring at 191.0 inches in length, 73.2 inches in width, and 56.0 inches in height, it provides ample space for four passengers, thanks to its spacious wheelbase of 112.8 inches.

This convertible is also highly functional as it has a spacious cargo area capable of accommodating up to 13.5 cubic feet. However, when the roof is folded, the capacity decreases to 10.4 cubic feet. Additionally, for added convenience, the rear seats can be easily folded with the use of buttons located in the trunk. The split ratio of 60:40 in the rear seats further adds to its practicality.

According to Mercedes, the standard seats are encased in a material they refer to as “man-made nappa leather-effect upholstery.” For an additional fee, customers have the option to upgrade to genuine leather that has been treated with a unique coating designed to shield against the sun’s near-infrared rays during scorching summer days. Extensive testing conducted by the prestigious German automaker revealed that these coated seats were able to maintain temperatures up to 53.6 degrees Fahrenheit lower when exposed to direct sunlight, in comparison to uncoated seats.

As a Mercedes convertible, this car boasts typical features that enhance your driving experience while the top is down. The front headrests include the standard Airscarf vent, which emits warm air to keep your neck cozy when the weather is chilly or blustery. Moreover, the CLE Cabriolet comes equipped with an electronically deployed Aircap system, which is simply a term used for a wind deflector positioned above the windshield to redirect the airflow away from the passengers’ heads. Additionally, there is an automatic wind deflector behind the back seats to minimize any turbulent effects.

Moving on to the uppermost part of the vehicle, Mercedes is set to release the CLE Cabriolet featuring a sleek fabric roof in black, red, or grey. This high-quality soft top has multiple layers and advanced acoustics, making it not only stylish but also efficient in keeping out noise. Its smooth operation allows for a quick 20-second transformation while driving at speeds of up to 37 mph. Additionally, the car comes equipped with a motorized roller partition to keep the folded roof separate from the storage compartment.

It may come as unexpected news that the latest CLE Cabriolet will come equipped with a diesel motor. The 220d version utilizes a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a mild-hybrid system. Additionally, the gasoline-powered 200, 200 4Matic, and 300 4Matic models are also equipped with 48V technology to decrease fuel consumption and reduce emissions.

Opt for the diesel option and the Mercedes CLE 220d Cabriolet boasts a formidable 194 horsepower and 440 Newton-meters (325 pound-feet) of torque. The 200 trim level offers a respectable 201 hp and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. Those looking for a bit more power can opt for the CLE 300 4Matic, which delivers a whopping 255 hp and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). In every instance, a supplementary electric motor provides a temporary boost of 23 hp and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft).

The CLE 450 4Matic Convertible offers a more powerful driving experience with its upgraded inline-six 3.0-liter gasoline engine, featuring mild-hybrid technology. This enhancement results in a thrilling 375 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, allowing for a quick 0 to 62 mph acceleration in just 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. Recent sightings have shown that Mercedes plans to release an AMG CLE 53 Convertible, mirroring the power of the coupe at 443 hp.

The CLE Cabriolet is still pending its release in the United States. However, in its home country of Germany, the sophisticated convertible is available for purchase starting at €66,402, and going up to €88,357 for the six-cylinder variant.
