The New C63 Hybrid with 2.0L Engine

The premiere of the premier Mercedes-Benz CLE arrived in both coupé and convertible implementations just a few weeks ago. This new model replaces the C-Class (coupé and cabriolet) and E-Class (coupé and cabriolet) that have now been removed from the brand’s portfolio and more variants will arrive soon after. Without doubt, the AMG-branded iterations of the CLE will be the most sought after and we already have an impressive concept of what the top model might feature.

Our colleagues at Motor.es provided a unique look at the upcoming CLE 63 AMG, which features a Panamericana grille, larger air intakes in the front, identifying AMG badges, bigger alloy wheels, and an irresistible matte black paint job. Our colleagues presume that this two-door Mercedes won’t show off a particularly menacing exterior, and will keep its classic sleek and chic design language. This isn’t exceptionally unexpected given that no V8 engine is slated for this variant.

Yes, it’s true – the new CLE has access to a six-cylinder powertrain, although its platform shares lots of similarities with the recent C-Class. Although only comprising of four-cylinder engines, one of those includes the AMG 63 trim with its electrified 2.0 liter engine. It is very likely that this same powertrain will be seen in the CLE 63 AMG.

It might not sound right off the bat, however it’s not all gloomy news. The C63 plug-in hybrid system boasting a peak capacity of 671 horsepower and a massive 752 pound-feet of torque gives the car an ability to accelerate from 0 – 60 mph in only 3.3 seconds. Correspondingly, this performance will be replicated virtually for the two-door CLE coupe, though the convertible variant may be slightly slower from its additional weight as a result of the retractable roof and structure enhancements. All aforementioned models will also have access to that very same engine in its AMG 63 spec.

Credible snaps and clips of the Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 in progress have already surfaced, suggesting that we’ll witness the ultimate version sometime soon. For now, it is uncertain when precisely the auto’s unveiling may take place, though a probable date is during the latter portion of next year.
