Tesla Model S Plaid Dominates Lucid Air Sapphire in Performance Battle

Model S victory hinges on early start at the green light.

Few production vehicles can rival the straight-line speed of the Tesla Model S Plaid or the Lucid Air Sapphire, but how do they stack up next to each other? A new DragTimes video has brought these two rapid sedans together for a direct quarter-mile showdown to establish which one is the fastest production sedan worldwide.

This video is a continuation of the Lucid acceleration footage that was featured on April 21. In this clip, the host Brooks was able to hit 60 mph in just 1.77 seconds using Michelin street tires. It’s important to note that the car was on a highly prepared track at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida, which was necessary to fully utilize the Air Sapphire’s impressive 1,234 horsepower.

Lucid Sapphire Dethrones Tesla Plaid as World's Quickest Production Sedan * 1/4 Mile Drag Race

This leads us to the comparison of four-door high-performance sedans above. The Model S Plaid boasts 1,020 hp—a significant figure in any scenario, yet lower than the Sapphire. It has previously demonstrated its capability by completing quarter-mile runs in nine seconds, but that will not suffice to outperform the Sapphire. In order to secure a victory, Brooks must achieve a flawless start in the Plaid. If the Lucid driver also manages to launch perfectly, it spells defeat for the Tesla enthusiasts.

It is likely that Brooks was fully conscious of this, which clarifies why he jumped the start on the initial race. Despite the Model S crossing the finish line first, due to launching early, the victory goes to the other driver by default. Interestingly, in the subsequent race, the Lucid driver also commits a foul start with a red light, granting the Model S a technical win. Eventually, both drivers achieve flawless starts for the third and ultimate race. The result is not even remotely close.

The Lucid quickly gains distance from the Plaid throughout the entire race, reaching the finish line in 8.96 seconds with a speed of 153 mph. The Tesla follows closely behind, finishing in 9.28 seconds at 149 mph, resulting in a significant gap of several car lengths.

Cheating with that maneuver is not the way to go.

There are hardly any cars in production that can rival the Tesla Model S Plaid or Lucid Air Sapphire when it comes to straight-line speed. But how do these vehicles stack up against each other directly? A new video from DragTimes showcases a showdown between these two fast sedans in a pure quarter-mile race to establish which one is the fastest production sedan on Earth.

This video is a continuation of the Lucid acceleration video that was posted on April 21st. In the previous clip, the host, Brooks, was able to achieve a speed of 60 mph in just 1.77 seconds using Michelin street tires. It is important to note that the car was on a specially prepared track at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida, which was necessary in order to fully utilize the Air Sapphire’s impressive 1,234 horsepower.

This leads us to the competition between four-door super sedans mentioned above. The Model S Plaid boasts 1,020 hp, which is an impressive figure, although still lower than the Sapphire. While the Plaid has previously achieved nine-second quarter-mile runs, it may not be sufficient to outperform the Sapphire. In order to secure a victory, Brooks will have to execute a flawless start in the Plaid. If the Lucid driver also manages to launch perfectly, the Tesla group will be defeated.

It appears that Brooks was fully cognizant of this, which clarifies why he jumped the gun on the initial race. Although the Model S finishes first, due to starting too early, the victory defaults to the opposing driver. Surprisingly, in the second race, the Lucid driver also commits a false start with a red light, granting the Model S a technical win. Subsequently, in the third and ultimate race, both drivers execute smooth launches. The outcome is decisively in favor of one driver.

The Lucid consistently accelerates ahead of the Plaid along the track, reaching the finish line in 8.96 seconds at a speed of 153 mph. The Tesla follows closely behind with a time of 9.28 seconds and a speed of 149 mph, resulting in a significant distance between the two cars.

Could there be a street-legal vehicle that can surpass the Sapphire in speed? It may be a good moment for a showdown between Lucid and Rimac Nevera.
