Ford Performance has unveiled a sneak peek of an upcoming high-performance variant of the F-150 Lightning. But before you start planning your purchase, take note that this prototype will be making an appearance on behalf of the Blue Oval at the 102nd edition of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The image in the teaser reveals a sleek and broad design, featuring a potential enormous spoiler on the rear. Could this be the highly anticipated Supertruck that was hinted at by F1 racer, Daniel Ricciardo, last year?

The car company located in Dearborn has not disclosed any further details, other than the fact that it will be entering as competitor number 150. Impressive. In the previous year, Ford made history with their electric SuperVan 4.2, achieving an astonishing time of 8:47.682 with Romain Dumas as the driver. This record-breaking sprint in the Open Class has motivated Ford to strive for even better results in the upcoming 2023 race.

The typical F-150 Lightning boasts an impressive 580 horsepower and a whopping 775 lb-ft of torque, showcasing its immense muscular power. However, when it comes to conquering Pikes Peak, these figures simply won’t make the cut. It should also be noted that the electric truck carries a hefty weight of 6,893 lbs in Platinum trim, and its handling is specifically designed for comfort and off-road capabilities.

It is possible that the car manufacturer may opt to utilize the powertrain from the potent Mustang Mach-E 1400, which boasts an impressive 1,400 horsepower thanks to its seven electric motors. Additionally, it would not come as a shock if it incorporates various elements from the previously mentioned Supervan project. Essentially, this would be a unique and personalized design, distinct from the original F-150 Lightning model.

In anticipation of the Pikes Peak race, Ford Performance has equipped the SuperVan 4.2 with specialized aerodynamics. These enhancements include a carbon fiber rear spoiler and front splitter designed to keep the vehicle firmly grounded on the demanding terrain. Knowing that Pikes Peak spares no mercy, Ford is determined to provide the F-150 Lightning with top-of-the-line aerodynamic modifications for a fair shot at success.

It is possible that the battery assembly could potentially be reduced in size, shedding excess weight from the large truck. In the previous year, Ford Performance introduced the F-150 Switchgear, an exhibit featuring modifications based on the Lightning model. These enhancements include Fox 3-inch internal bypass shock absorbers, increased suspension capabilities, and greater ground clearance, among others.
