Toyota Camry 2JZ: 3000HP Beast

2JZ Billet Block/Toyota Stock Cast Head Build

It is not that often that one comes across a Toyota Camry with a whopping 1,000 horsepower. Nonetheless, Lazcano Racing wasn’t content with that figure and instead chose to go one step further by equipping their build with a powerful 3k horses coming from a 2JZ engine swap.

Apart from the ubiquitous Toyota brand and design elements, nothing else about this vehicle is particular to a Camry. This one sports a Pro Mod chassis built specifically for tearing up the drag strip. Jose Gonzales — who holds the esteemed title of Quickest Door Car with an impressive 5.359-second time at 272.94 mph in his Pro Mod Camaro — is the proud owner of this Camry, whose goal is to break 5.40 seconds.

Mentioned before, the vehicle is propelled by the renowned Toyota 2JZ engine, commonly found in vehicles such as the Supra Mk4. Well-known for its dependable cast iron block, this engine can easily reach an impressive one thousand horsepower.

Yet, for this exact Camry drag racer, it is outfitted with a 2JZ combined with 12 720lb/h FT injectors. Moreover, it comes with a billet block and cylinders head that have gone through noteworthy modifications though still having the stock Toyota cast.

Following several dyno runs, the peak power output was measured at 2,975 hp at the rear wheels through a seven-velocity lock-up gearbox. We anticipate around 3,300 hp at the transmission’s origin point, and anticipate it to serve properly during a quarter-mile drag event.

The primary alteration to this build is a 110mm Precision Turbo charged by a nitrous system for added power. Also outfitted with many high-end aftermarket parts, such as the FuelTech FT600 EFI System, Peak and Hold Pro, EGT-4, and FTSpark, among other components.

The Toyota Camry equipped with the powerful 2JZ engine will be entering the NHRA Pro Import class. Thanks to El General Racing and Steve Petty from Proline Racing achieving a build that is well-rounded and finely tuned, they have high expectations about the vehicle setting a 5.40-second time.
