Toyota Crown Revamped By In-House Tuner

Upgraded Toyota Crown Sport with Modellista Kit

Last week, the initial unveiling of the Toyota Crown Sport happened in Japan, prompting the involvement of its own customized house, Modellista. They have given the new crossover a cosmetic upgrade and added a wide range of accessories, one being a travel pillow that can easily convert into a bag.

The Toyota Crown Sport burst onto the scene boasting a design evocative of Ferrari and hybrid propulsion capabilities. It is one of only several manifestations within the revived Toyota Crown array, setting out to accommodate drivers with an exhilarating drive, as well as supreme comfortability. This vehicle does indeed exude style; however, some may demand a subjective touch of richness.

The recent unveiling of the kit is a reflection of the same techniques used to outfit other Toyota cars, much like what the specialized tuning company did with the Prius last year. They designed a shell for the hybrid to give it a unique look.

The stylish Modellista body kit provides the Toyota Crown Sport with an unmistakable sporty flair, courtesy of its new front splitter painted in striking copper, which significantly reduces the car’s front stance by around two inches. Additionally, side skirts further diminish the ground clearance of the sides by a comparable amount, and rear spats dropping it at a somewhat reduced level of just over an inch. Not to mention, crowned mirrors trimmed with chrome offer extra sophistication to the sporty design.

The stock Crown Sport comes with 21-inch wheels as standard. Modellista has created an alternative for these wheels: the “Wing Dancer” with a two-tone finish and more angular spokes. These modifications, combined with the new kit, give the hybrid model a more hatchback-like look, highlighting its edgier features.

Modelista hasextra attention to the nuances of the vehicle by also providing various other accessories, for instance, door handle covers available in two colors, either silver or black, and nuts and bolts securing the license plate.

The Modellista Crown Sport has added one of its most unique features yet – a cushion that doubles as a tote bag. Although the comfort of the new “cushion” remains to be seen, it certainly brings an interesting twist to the car. But don’t worry, the cushion is not limited to the Crown Sport, as it appears to be available as part of other Modellista body kits.

Expect no boosts in capability, in any case. The hybrid variant still creates 231 horsepower from its rechargeable hybrid mechanism.

According to Modellista’s online catalog, the total cost for the items is ¥582,900 ($3,913), with ¥258,500 ($1,734) for the main item, an additional ¥17,600 ($118) for the mirror caps, ¥27,500 ($185) for the privacy glass, and ¥286,000 ($1,919) for the 21-inch wheels. The “smart cushion tote bag” is priced at ¥9,900 ($66).

It is uncertain if the Crown Sport will be available in the US, yet Modellista has made known their aim to supply American Toyota proprietors.
