Discovering the Secrets of What’s Under the Hood
Anticipation continues to build for the impending arrival of Toyota’s upcoming next-gen 2024 Tacoma pickup truck. Ever since 2015 when the current model was launched, folks have been eagerly anticipating its refresh — and that proverbial wait could soon be over. The latest teaser reveals the backside of the TRD Pro variant, further cementing the fact that off-roading will undoubtedly be a fixture in the new model.
Confirmation of the new TRD Pro edition of the Tacoma has come with a single image that reveals further details about what lies beneath its hood. Notably, an eye-catching i-Force MAX badge on the tailgate officially confirms what was previously only speculated; the next gen Tacoma will feature a hybrid powertrain.
The i-Force MAX powertrain is now housed in the expansive Tundra pickup truck, combining a 3.5-liter twin turbocharged V6 with an electric motor situated within the transmission. This combination furnishes 437 horsepower and a towering 583 lb-ft of torque, likely too much of a jab for a smaller truck like the Tacoma. Our presumption is that the Toyota Tacoma will adopt the 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, similar to the Hybrid MAX package found in the Crown. This set up supplies 340 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, more power than any prior Tacoma had.
“The best-selling midsize pick-up in America is all-new for MY2024 with electrifying i-Force MAX performance,” Toyota said in its latest teaser. This statement has sparked speculation that the Tacoma Hybrid will be equipped with the same six-speed automatic transmission found in the Crown and the Lexus RX 500h F-Sport Performance. Meanwhile, it is expected that the non-hybrid version of the Tacoma will be fitted with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Despite the lack of confirmation regarding the existence of a non-hybrid model, it is unlikely that Toyota would leave behind customers who prefer a gas engine.
Toyota has been crafty in their teaser game thus far, taking advantage of leaked photos taken from the Brazilian Patent Office, making light of the leak in the initial teaser. The subsequent teaser only showed a shadowy outline of the pickup truck, yet it managed to generate much anticipation amongst Tacoma lovers and makes obvious that an official reveal is near.
We can’t be sure precisely when the 2024 Tacoma will make its grand entrance, but we expect Toyota is eager to get it into showrooms sometime this year. We’ll keep you informed with more news, as this probably won’t be the last teaser before an official declaration. “Keep an eye out for news on the Tacoma’s incredible new design and features,” Toyota states.
