Transmission 2025 Mini Cooper S: Modern, Affordable, and Automatic at $33,195

The US welcomes the powerful new Mini with 201hp and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Not all Mini Coopers currently run on electricity, although there are plans in the works. After the release of the Cooper SE, a non-electric version followed with a choice between two engines. The latest Mini available for purchase in the US is the Cooper S, which comes with only one powertrain option. Regrettably, a manual transmission feature is not included. According to Mini, the decision to discontinue this option has been finalized and will not be reversed.

One of the features included is the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, boasting the exact amount of 201 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque that was revealed during its initial release in February. This impressive engine powers the front wheels with the assistance of a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Under ideal circumstances, Mini claims that the American version of the Cooper S can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.3 seconds.

Mike Peyton, Mini’s vice president of the Americas, commented on the sight of the new Mini Cooper S enjoying itself on the bustling streets of New York. He stated, “Seeing the new, Mini Cooper S having fun on the streets of New York is a testament to Mini as a small, fun-to-drive car with a big heart.” This statement highlights the brand’s reputation for being a compact yet spirited vehicle.

Participating in this enjoyable experience will cost you a minimum of $33,195, which already includes Mini’s $995 destination fee. With this price, you can get a Cooper S Hardtop in Signature edition, complete with 17-inch wheels and available in four different colors from top to bottom. The interior boasts a 9.4-inch center display and cloth seats, offered in light gray or black options. Additionally, the front seats are equipped with heating capabilities, while the steering wheel comes with standard heat as well.

The entry-level model boasts an advanced heads-up display, a panoramic moonroof, and an impressive selection of technological features and driver aids. These include a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, automatic headlamps, parking assistance, and additional options.

To access additional amenities, you must upgrade to the Signature Plus version for an added fee of $2,400. This upgrade allows for the iconic two-tone body/roof color options that Minis are famous for, as well as a larger selection of paint colors, wheel styles, and advanced technology such as Mini’s Active Driving Assistant. The highest tier in the Cooper S lineup is the Iconic version, which offers even more enhancements including augmented reality navigation, power seats, a premium sound system, and other luxurious features. However, this upgrade comes with a heftier price tag of $4,100, bringing the total cost to $37,295. With all the bells and whistles included at this level, there are limited options available for further customization.

According to Mini, the production of the 2025 Cooper S has already begun and these models will be available at dealerships in May. However, if you cannot wait until then, you can catch a glimpse of it at the 2024 New York Auto Show, beginning on March 29.
