Upcoming 2025 Mercedes-AMG CLE53 Cabriolet Boasts 443 HP and Open-Top Driving Experience

From cloudy to clear in a flash.

The latest AMG iteration of the recently launched CLE-Class was unveiled towards the end of 2023, and now it’s ready for a closer look. Introducing the Mercedes-AMG CLE53 Cabriolet, featuring a powerful 443 horsepower engine ideal for enjoyable convertible driving experiences.

The convertible version is powered by the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, similar to what is found in the hardtop model. This engine also features an overboost function that temporarily increases peak torque to 443 pound-feet. The peak torque range is quite wide, offering constant power from 2,200 to 5,000 rpm. Power is sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission and the 4Matic system. While the convertible is slightly slower than the hardtop, it can still reach 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. The top speed remains electronically limited to 155 mph.

In terms of appearance, the CLE53 Cabriolet showcases similar body enhancements to the coupe. It has a slightly broader front and rear compared to the standard model, leading to the addition of AMG-specific fenders. The front features a sporty fascia with a Panamericana grille, while the back is adorned with AMG-specific quad oval exhaust finishers. Inside, AMG upgrades consist of unique displays for the 12.3-inch driver and 11.9-inch center screens, along with branded seats. Optional are improved AMG Performance seats with enhanced bolsters for a more aggressive look.

The additional strengthening could be useful in certain situations. The CLE53 features a strengthened frame to better handle the absence of its roof, and comes with standard AMG Ride Control suspension. Additionally, rear-axle steering is included as standard, allowing for up to 2.5 degrees of turning in the opposite direction of the front wheels at speeds below 60 mph. Beyond that speed, the rear wheels can turn parallel to the front wheels by up to 0.7 degrees. Mercedes claims that this feature enhances the car’s stability when driving at higher speeds.

Similar to the current CLE-Class Cabriolet, the AMG model features the Airscarf and Aircap systems to ensure a cozy ride for the driver and front passenger. The Airscarf function, standard on the CLE53, gently blows warm air onto the necks of those in the front seats. Meanwhile, Aircap utilizes deflectors located on the windshield and rear headrests to redirect air over the open roof, reducing buffeting when driving with the top down. The fabric roof can be operated at speeds of up to 37 mph and takes around 20 seconds to open or close.

Details regarding the pricing of the 2025 Mercedes-AMG CLE53 Cabriolet will be disclosed in the future. However, it is worth noting that the CLE 450 with top specifications has a starting price of $77,600, suggesting that the MSRP for the AMG CLE53 will likely exceed this amount.
