Watch Old Ford Taurus Outrace Rivals

1990 Taurus SHO Survives 33 Years
Blackhawk Track Night 06/07/23

Ah, the historic Ford Taurus SHO. Most people are familiar with it, but even after more than three decades since its release, it still astounds onlookers. Consider taking your McLaren 720S to a track day in 2023 and suddenly witnessing the plain visage of an old-fashioned white Taurus in the rearview mirror. Fortunately, that glimpse stayed focused on the reflection, which cannot be said for several other racers captured in the video above.

This clip was procured from Adam Hartlmeier, a notorious wholehearted devotee of SHO motors. Together with his mate Michelle, they possess a bona fide selection of first-generation models, this contains the four Ninja Turtle autos that were lined up in the IMSA series during the 90s. Though the vehicle you see in the footage isn’t among them, that tale is for another outing. Right now, we’re emphasizing on a white 1990 SHO which is customarily adapted for track amusement.

from UnsplashA lovely image can communicate a great deal of feeling and emotion. Such is the case with the evocative photography from Chad Corcoran’s Unsplash collection. The gorgeous snap conveys a vast assortment of thoughts and sentiments. It leaves an impression, displaying a stunning landscape in warm colours and interesting detail. What starts as an eye-catching visual can yield much more as one delves deeper into its message.A striking photograph taken by Chad Corcoran from his Unsplash portfolio has the power to express a plethora of feelings and sensations. His breathtaking picture brings together a beautiful array of hues and details which strike the viewer with deep emotion. Rather than simply catching the eye, this image prompts deeper contemplation of its contents.

By mildly modified, we don’t mean anything out of the ordinary. One won’t find turbochargers, superchargers or nitrous oxide here. A sequential transmission isn’t present either, and tires that are as large as moons backed up by brakes aren’t included. The aero package simply consists of a NASCAR-style rear wing. Hartlmeier told that the 3.2 liter SHO V6 in its mostly stock form designed approximately 250 horsepower at the front wheels. An advanced suspension set-up with coilovers was utilized, along with 13″ brakes in place of the originally intended 10″. Additionally, it was stripped down; bringing the total weight to a low 2,600lbs.

The video footage was shot during a recent test day at Blackhawk Farms raceway, a 1.92-mile circuit in northern Illinois. There is something exemplary about viewing the contrast between a brand-new McLaren 720S and an elderly Ford Taurus driving around the track together. The sports car definitely has an advantage on the longer sections of the track but the slower vehicle still manages to keep up with the turns. Unfortunately, Hartlmeier loses control of his ride in one of the bends and spins out. This is the last time we get any sighting of the McLaren but the prior owners of the Taurus prove it’s still a force to be reckoned with by beating multiple Miatas, Chevrolet Camaros, Ford Mustangs, E30 BMWs, Porsche Caymans and more.

Hartlmeier notes the SHO is a genuine racing vehicle in contrast to many other models in attendance, which tend to encompass both on-track and road-use specs. Nonetheless, these rides still put out a good deal of power, constructed especially for tight cornering and thrilling rides. When those who stop to take a glimpse at the rented Taurus can’t believe their eyes when it easily passes car after car – that’s when Hartlmeier realises the TRIRM SHO has performed its part as a total factory sleeper.

We owe our gratitude to the Hartlmeiers for their photo and narrative contributions. For fans of the Taurus SHO, head over to’s ‘Rambling Of Cars’ broadcast featuring Zach Wright, owner of a 1995 Taurus SHO drag racer that conclusively ran within 8-seconds, which has been given the loving title of ‘The Blue Turd’.
