Insanely entertaining drag race that tops all others in recent memory.
In the recent drag racing footage from Hoonigan, there is a thrilling display of competition, danger, near misses, and fiery moments. It’s almost reminiscent of a romantic plot on a Netflix show, but fortunately, this intense showdown concludes with all participants unscathed and in good health.
Standing in one corner is Beto Ondgas, behind the wheel of a modified 2002 Chevrolet Silverado – or at least, what appears to be a Silverado. While the bed remains made of sturdy steel, the rest of the body has been transformed into lightweight fiberglass. The vehicle rests on specialized ladder bars and is equipped with basic features such as a seat, shifter, roll bar, steering wheel, and little else. However, hidden beneath the hood lies a powerful twin-turbocharged 5.3-liter V-8 engine, capable of producing an impressive 1,500 horsepower and powering all four wheels.
The second participant is Alex Soto, at the wheel of a 2018 Audi R8. While not as visually extreme as the truck, it still packs quite a punch with its 5.2-liter V10 engine that has been tuned to produce a whopping 1,200 horsepower. This incredible amount of power is transmitted to all four wheels through the R8’s advanced AWD system, which has been enhanced with a modified seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Although it may have slightly less horsepower compared to the Chevy, it makes up for it by being 200 pounds lighter. On paper, this appears to be an evenly matched competition.
Absolutely it is, although not for the usual reasons. The initial warning race has the truck slipping and sliding in every direction, yet somehow Ondgas manages to make it seem effortless. He never takes his foot off the gas pedal even though he’s continuously adjusting the steering wheel to maintain control, and his courage earns him a resounding victory.
Things start to get questionable at this point in the race. The second round sees the Audi with a two-car advantage at the starting line, as Soto takes the lead. He speeds away and Ondgas follows suit, turning the drag race into a display of drifting skills. As the Silverado begins to lose control and skids sideways, crossing over the runway centerline, Ondgas remains in the Audi’s lane and continues to rapidly close the gap. Despite this, he refuses to let off the gas, skillfully correcting his course multiple times and ultimately overtaking the R8 to secure the win once again. This truly showcases his remarkable abilities behind the wheel.
Following a sudden halt, the Silverado begins to emit transmission fluid and collides with the scorching exhaust pipes, resulting in a blazing fire. Ondgas reacts swiftly, leaping out and successfully putting out the flames. As a result, the day concludes with a resounding triumph in a drag race and the truck remains in working order. It’s a win-win situation in our opinion.
