Renowned worldwide for his love of Porsche, Jerry Seinfeld is offering one of his prized possessions from his car collection: a 1996 911 Targa which he acquired during his time on the beloved television series, Seinfeld. However, time is running out for prospective buyers as this vehicle will be auctioned off on Bring a Trailer today, Wednesday January 10, at precisely 3:28 PM. Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of automotive history.
Upon perusing the listing on BaT, any reference or acknowledgement of Seinfeld’s involvement is notably absent. Yet, during his appearance on Spike’s Car Radio on January 10, 2024, the famed comedian did divulge details about the car’s sale.
Despite not being associated with a celebrity, this particular 911 model still holds a significant amount of value. Its Targa body style is not commonly found, as data from the popular car forum Rennlist indicates a global production of only 4,583 units in its generation. Unlike its predecessors, this version features a fixed glass roof that can be slid under the rear window, giving the feeling of having a vast sunroof.
When Seinfeld placed his order for this 911 Targa, he made sure to select a variety of options. Among them were sporty features such as stainless steel oval exhaust pipes and the “engine sound package,” which involved a modified airbox. Additionally, the car was equipped with the limited-slip differential and Porsche’s “automatic brake differential,” a type of traction control that utilized the anti-lock brakes to reduce the speed of a wheel that was slipping.
Seinfeld made various technical enhancements to his car, one of which was the addition of cruise control. He also installed a Becker cassette stereo and a six-disc CD changer, cleverly concealed under the hood. Furthermore, he upgraded the amp and speakers for better sound quality. Although considered old-fashioned by today’s standards, the optional on-board computer features a display beneath the tachometer that shows outside temperature, digital speed, trim odometer, average speed, average mpg, and distance to next fuel stop.
The cabin of the factory has been enhanced with a set of eight-way powered seats, an aluminum shifter, an aluminum parking brake handle, chrome-rimmed gauges, stainless steel door sills, and luxurious Midnight Blue leather seats. These upgrades have added to the overall functionality and aesthetic appeal of the cabin.
The entire range of 993-generation 911 Targas was equipped with a non-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six motor producing 282 horsepower. Seinfeld’s particular model comes with a six-speed manual transmission, although a four-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox was also available back then.
We will provide an update on the sale price of the Porsche once this auction concludes. With the car’s prestigious ownership by Seinfeld and its extensive array of features, it has the potential to captivate numerous aficionados and prompt them to make a bid.
