Lego’s Life-Sized 296 GTS Ferrari Surpasses Real Car in Weight

New Ferrari-themed attraction at Legoland Florida features massive 15ft Lego replica of Ferrari 296.

In recent times, the complexity of Lego car designs has greatly increased, showcasing accurately scaled and realistic models of various makes and sizes. From Lego Fiats to Lego Defenders, even miniature Lego versions of Ayrton Senna have been made available for purchase.

These constructions, on the other hand, were miniature models. In celebration of the launch of a new Ferrari-inspired exhibit at Legoland Florida, the brand took it to the next level and enlisted a group of builders to construct a full-sized version of the Ferrari 296 GTS made entirely from bricks.

According to Lego, it took a team of 10 individuals a total of 1,850 hours to construct this impressive model. The intricate design includes functional headlights, taillights, and license-plate lights. In addition, the driver’s door is able to open and the interior is entirely made out of Lego bricks, except for the genuine 296 GTS steering wheel. The inside boasts a two-tone dashboard in shades of beige and black, as well as a pair of bucket seats, which are likely not very comfortable.

A twin-turbo V6 made entirely out of Lego protrudes from the rear window of the vehicle. Despite being constructed from plastic materials, it exceeds the weight of a fully functional 819-horsepower 296 GTS, with the Lego replica tipping the scales at nearly two metric tons in comparison to the authentic model’s 3,395 pounds.

Legoland Florida has yet to disclose the exact amount of bricks that were utilized to assemble the car. However, they have announced a competition on their Instagram page where participants can venture a guess at the total number. In comparison, previous life-size car replicas constructed by the company, such as the Ferrari F40, Volvo V70, and Ford F-150 Lightning, have each required approximately 350,000 bricks. Therefore, it is probable that the Ferrari 296 GTS falls within this range.

With the standard cost of a single Lego brick averaging at 10 cents, the estimated price for constructing this 296 GTS would be around $35,000. This is quite a notable savings, especially when compared to the actual vehicle which costs over ten times as much.

The opportunity to view the Lego Ferrari in person awaits you at Legoland Florida from March 8th.
