Following extensive research and development, Mullen has shared with CarBuzz an alluring specification sheet highlighting a few key figures: an impressive 1,000+ horsepower, a top speed exceeding 200 mph, acceleration from 0 to 60 in less than two seconds, and impressive braking capabilities of 60-0 mph in under 110 feet. The power will be delivered through a dual electric motor system via a two-speed transmission, similar to the Porsche Taycan, with efficient charging capabilities thanks to its 800-volt architecture and a 100 kWh battery pack. Mullen assures that a quick charge time of only 21 minutes on a DC fast-charger is all it takes to reach 80% capacity. If Mullen fulfills these bold claims, this vehicle could definitely pose a formidable threat to the Tesla Model X Plaid in a drag race competition.
Mullen did not simply create the Five RS with only straight-line speed in mind; it also boasts impressive handling capabilities. The specifications listed include top-of-the-line six-piston and four-piston Brembo brakes made of carbon ceramic, available with 21-inch or 22-inch wheels. For ultimate performance on the racetrack, an Ultra-Performance Race Track Mode allows for customized adjustment of throttle mapping, powertrain, cooling system, suspension stiffness, and steering response.
The inside of the car exudes a fierce and lavish vibe, thanks to the prominent orange ambient lighting that adds a touch of sportiness. The bolstered sport seats, covered in a combination of Nubuck leather and Alcantara, add to the overall luxurious feel. Carbon fiber door inserts and the large screens for the gauges and infotainment add a touch of elegance. A smaller third screen, positioned in front of the passenger seat, displays essential vehicle details such as speed. Mullen has incorporated an AI personal assistant called “Persona” in the Five RS, equipped with advanced facial recognition technology for a more personalized driving experience.
The dimensions of the Mullen Five RS are 193 inches in length and have a wheelbase of 116 inches, which is approximately five inches less than a Model X but six inches longer than a Model Y. Unlike its competitors from Tesla, the Mullen can only accommodate four passengers. Additionally, its storage capacity is also smaller with a mere 25.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats and a total of 62.4 cubic feet.
There remain numerous uncertainties surrounding the Mullen Five RS, such as its eventual price tag. Mullen has stated that deliveries will commence in 2025 and if the cost is reasonable, this vehicle has the potential to become an instant sensation. Initially, Mullen had plans to introduce the Qiantu K50 sports car to the American market in 2021, yet as of 2024, the company is still purportedly in the midst of finalizing its engineering. Fingers crossed that the Five RS does not encounter comparable setbacks.
