Luxury Korean Off-Roaders: An Adventurous Rarity
The Hyundai Motor Group’s upmarket arm, Genesis, has now established a collaboration with off-road specialist Delta4x4, thereby presenting to the world their new luxurious cross-over SUV appropriately named the Genesis GV70 Project Overland. This fine specimen of automotive engineering is not only exceptionally stylish but also made to handle any terrain it encounters. Perfectly set to venture into even the most remote areas, this commemorative model from Delta4x4 marks pleasantly their 40th Anniversary.
This GV70 has some extra features for the outdoorsy type. Increased ground clearance of 50mm offers much more of a rugged look. It can also take on any terrain, just like the off-road Volkswagen Golf by the same modified specialists. It certainly aids in making this car better suited to an adventurer’s lifestyle.
Enhancing its hold on dirt, rock, and sand even further is a set of 18-inch Classic B-Rugged rims fitted with aggressive all-terrain Continental tires. Forward lighting is also improved thanks to the addition of walls buffed PIAA lights as well as grille-mounted lights just like those seen on cars that competed in the recent Score Baja 1000 race.
Enhancing the freight hauling aptitude of an overlander is paramount. Consequently, the GV70 was outfitted with a purpose-crafted roof rack.
Apart from these pieces, no differences to its power were specified. To give you an idea, the factory GV70 can be optioned with a 2.5-liter turbocharged petrol motor, a 3.5-liter V6 engine, or an entirely electric system. By default, all come with 4×4 drive.
The GV70’s most capable form boasts an impressive 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque, which may not put it at the top of its class (the Mercedes-Benz GLC 43 commands 416hp), but it certainly offers enough kick for exhilarating desert trips.
Unfortunately, with little prospect of this hostile-looking GV70 concept materializing shortly, there is limited time remaining for the existing model of the GV70. Already Genesis has been devising a successor model. However, if you yearn to catch sight of it in person then the Essen Motor Show, which is taking place between December 1-10 of 2023 in Germany, provides your best chance.
