My dear Ferrari, what is this I am seeing? A fresh footage captured outside the esteemed automaker’s Maranello base reveals apparent testing of a Tesla Model S Plaid by employees. It has come as a shock to us as we have not heard of any intentions from Ferrari to enter the electric sedan market. The sight of an American luxury car within the premises of the renowned Italian supercar manufacturer is quite unexpected.

Ferrari has not been shy about incorporating electric technology into their lineup, with hybrid models making up almost half of their sales in the previous year. However, it is noteworthy that they are still waiting until 2025 to release their fully electric vehicle.

It is possible that Ferrari is simply familiarizing itself with the existing options available on the market. Alternatively, it could be that the automaker’s team of engineers is using the Tesla as a point of reference for their own forthcoming PHEV setup, which boasts impressive acceleration capabilities of reaching 60 miles per hour in just two seconds before engaging the traditional gasoline engine. The specifics may be unclear, but one can only hope that Ferrari does not adopt any negative practices from Tesla.

It is anticipated that the car manufacturer will introduce three fresh models in the year 2024, with one potentially featuring a twin-turbo V6 engine combined with plug-in hybrid technology. Reports suggest that the successor to the LaFerrari will be equipped with an engine based on the one found in the 296 GTB. Additionally, we can expect the premiere of the replacement for the 812 Superfast, although it is likely to forego any electric powertrain and retain its naturally aspirated V12 engine. The vehicles showcased in the video, covered in camouflage wrap, are believed to provide a glimpse of what is to come.

While Ferrari is currently prioritizing the development of hybrid cars, they, along with other car manufacturers, are also exploring the potential of battery-powered electric vehicles. The Model S may not be Tesla’s top-selling option, but boasting more than 1,000 horsepower in its most powerful version, any electric Ferrari must surpass the performance of this four-door American sedan from the Golden State.
